ASH Wednesday

Ashes are the most important symbol of Ash Wednesday. They mark us as believers who are setting out on a journey of self-examination and self-improvement. Ashes remind us of the traditional symbols of penance—sackcloth and ashes. And ashes also remind us of what God said just before he drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden: “…you are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Genesis 3:19).
